The Objective
Hastings Boysâ High School aimed to increase international student enrolments, with a particular focus on attracting students from Japan and other overseas markets.
They needed a video to showcase the schoolâs academic excellence, outdoor education opportunities, and sporting success while also providing reassurance to families about the safe and welcoming homestay experience.
The Challenge
The challenge was to create a compelling visual narrative that authentically represented the schoolâs values and opportunities, thereby building trust and encouraging enrolment.
HBHS needed a strategy to effectively showcase its unique offerings and reassure potential international students and their families of the schoolâs commitment to providing a safe and enriching educational experience.

Our Approach
We produced a 2-3 minute video designed to give international families a genuine feel for life at HBHS. The production involved two full days of filming, capturing a mix of classroom learning, outdoor adventure, and interviews on campus:
In the Classroom: Highlighting HBHSâs modern facilities and subject variety, while showing teachers engaging with students in a boysâ education environment.
Outdoor Education: Shooting on location at Waimarama Beach and Maraetotara Falls, showcasing the unique outdoor experiences available through the schoolâs popular Outdoor Education programme.
Sporting Culture: Filming on the rugby fields and other sports facilities to capture the schoolâs proud sporting history and strong performance across a range of codes.
On-Campus Interviews: Headmaster Mason Summerfield, outlining the values, achievements, and opportunities at HBHS. A homestay parent, speaking to the care and support provided to international students living away from home. A Japanese student, sharing their personal experience of life at HBHS, both in and out of the classroom.
Drone Footage: Capturing stunning aerial shots, including the blossoms, beautifully highlighting the schoolâs grounds and the seasonal beauty of the campus.
We also sourced a Japanese transcriber Lei Tanabe to ensure the video was culturally accessible for this key target audience.
